Many fads of the 1950's were inspired by what Americans saw on television, which was new to many Americans in that decade. Some fads during the 1950's were poodle skirts, 3-D movies, and "sock hops." Sock hops got their name because at informal high school dances the teens would take of their shoes so they would not scuff up the floor.
